EMOTAIX.PT (Costa, 2012) is a database of 3,983 emotional words (nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs) in European Portuguese based on the original EMOTAIX in French (Piolat & Bannour, 2009). Each word is classified into three hierarchical levels: Supra Category, Super Category and Basic Category. Supra categories are Benevolence, Well-being, and Composure (positive valence) and Malevolence, Ill-being, and Anxiety (negative valence). Super categories are Affection and Kindness within Benevolence; Happiness, Lucidity, Spirit, Relief and Satisfaction within Well-being; and Courage and Calmness within Composure. Analogous super categories with negative valence are Hate and Aggression within Malevolence; Suffering, Madness, Depression, Disorder and Frustration within Ill-being; and Fear and Tension within Anxiety. Basic categories amount to 50 (25 x 2). Additional non-hierarchical categories are Surprise, Unspecified Emotions and Impassiveness.
